Where Did The Holidays Go?
53Here in Victoria, Australia, we have just had two weeks of school holidays. The school term started on Monday (2 days ago) and I am now adjusting to having the kids back at school.
You see, I'm one of those "sooky" mums (as some may describe me) who loves the school holidays. I love having all my three children here at home with me (although there are the occasional times when I doubt my own sanity! lol).
Anyway, on Monday night, I was thinking about all of that, and about just how quickly my children are growing up, when the inspiration for a new poem hit me!
So I would like to share it with you. I've called it "Where Did The Holidays Go?". Here goes ...
The kids went back to school today,
The holidays went so fast!
Two weeks seems long right at the start,
But trust me, it doesn't last!
I know not all parents feel that way,
And think school holidays are a drag,
I feel sorry for them, they're missing out,
And so are their kids - how sad!
My kids and I did the usual things,
And housework still needs to be done,
But I made time for the kids and we did heaps of stuff,
We all had oodles of fun!
I love to see my children grow,
And learn new things each day,
But I'm also sad that it's happening so fast!
I don't care what others say!
Don't get me wrong, I'm not holding them back,
Each stage of their lives is exciting,
But the thought of them all leaving home one day ...
(sniff) ... Well, I just don't find it very enticing! ... (sniff)
My Dad once said to me, "Kylie, don't wish ...
that today is already tomorrow.
You're only wishing your life away.
Trust me", he said with sorrow.
Now, not too many kids like to admit,
That their parents are usually right,
But I believe my Dad "hit the nail on the head",
With his wonderfully, wise insight!
So my advice to all you parents out there,
Is make the most of the time with your kids,
Once the time has passed, you can't get it back,
Cherish the good times, the photos and vids! (videos)
